You owe it to the Universe that the problem you are working on is not a black box for you.
Mankind has come a very long way from sticks and stones. A key factor for this has been man's ability to ask the right questions. It has allowed him to break down complex problems into smaller units that can be executed by the biological compute capacity of his brain.
Asking right questions requires the ability to "think" in that problem — an ability developed with only your understanding of the problem. How do you ask the right questions if you don't understand the problem and just "vibe coded" a solution over the weekend with a massive compute agent?
For AI, compute is meaningless on its own. It is the human mind's contextual understanding of the problem that lends meaning by setting the purpose and direction of a computational effort. Calculating the fastest way from A to B is meaningless on its own, but very meaningful when it is done for a food-delivery / ride-hailing application.
Purpose and meaning has always belonged to the human mind. And it was achieved by the people who had meaningful, white-box understanding of the problem at hand. For them, super computational abilities / Agentic engineering is a 'secondary' technical facility available for a 'primary' mission statement.
Now that the extremely fast and independent AI agents are taking over, more and more projects are becoming blackbox solutions run by people with shallow (if not non-existential) understanding of the task at hand, and its implications for human life. People that can spin up Proof-of-Concepts instantly, but do not know how it embeds in everyday human life, the pragmatic way for scaling up the solution, real life trade-offs and eventually the end game. If you talk to them, they can give you a quick AI generated rundown of the solution, but neither their words can inspire you or others, nor do they have an idea of what should be the vision for the next chapter. All they can do is prompt an LLM someone else created for them, and sooner than later, someone will replace them with a better prompter.
You owe it to the Universe that the problem you are working on is not a black box for you.
